Automated Hydroponics
As the lead programmer for the Automated Hydroponic Pod provided by Flex Farms and Rockwell Automation, I was responsible for developing a process control program that regulated the supply of light, water, and nutrients to the plants, as well as monitored various parameters such as water level, pH level, and more to create an optimized environment for plant growth.
The system utilized Endress + Hauser sensors to detect water, pH, and nutrient levels, a lighting system with adjustable spectrum and intensity, a GaurdLogix PLC, and a Panelview 5510 HMI for automation, data collection, and a user-friendly interface for operators.
Our project served as proof of concept for a new agriculture-engineering mix curriculum that will be taught in schools across the U.S. We presented this project to members of the Board of Education, Rockwell Automation, Endress + Hauser, faculty from Ohio State University, and many more!
Automated Valve Place
My role in the Automated Valve Place project was “Project Manager” and “Assistant Programmer” for Horizon Science Academy’s Engineering Capstone class. Our team took on the challenge of creating a valve positioning and welding simulation program for Worthington Industries. In this role, I was responsible for managing the allocation of tasks among team members, organizing daily meetings to review progress and plan for upcoming changes, and tackling the programming of the HMI, FANUC 200 ID LR Mate robotic arm, and the studio 5000 logic. Additionally, I provided support to my team members by assisting with their tasks and helping to troubleshoot any issues that arose. Our project represented a proof-of-concept program for a new machine that Worthington Industries hoped to incorporate into their facilities.

Traffic Light Simulation
During my junior year of high school, I collaborated with a team on a project to create a traffic light simulation. Our project involved using a Micro850 PLC, two sensors, four stacking lights, and a handmade base. The goal was to simulate traffic flow at a four-way intersection, including changing colors and durations of each traffic light.
We divided our team into two groups: one focused on assembly and wiring and the other on programming. I was responsible for developing the PLC program using Studio 5000. We were given a month to complete the project, however, due to delayed materials, we only had two weeks to finish.
Despite the time constraint, we worked diligently to complete the project on time. After completion, we showcased our simulation at Ohio’s Department of Transportation and a science fair. While we missed the deadline to make an official submission, we were proud of our accomplishment and the positive feedback we received.
Pick N Pack
During my junior year of high school, I embarked on an ambitious project to design and implement a pick-and-place automation system for handling heavy boxes. Central to this system was a FANUC LR Mate 200iD robotic arm, renowned for its precision and versatility. To enable the robotic arm to efficiently handle the heavy boxes, I customized an end-effector specifically designed for secure gripping and lifting.
The project also featured a large conveyor belt system that facilitated the movement of both the smaller boxes and the larger container. To power the pneumatic components required for the robotic arm’s operation, I integrated a high-capacity air compressor, which provided the necessary force for gripping and placing the boxes
Overall, this project showcased my ability to integrate various mechanical, pneumatic, and control systems into a cohesive automation solution. The successful implementation of this system not only enhanced the efficiency of the box handling process but also demonstrated my proficiency in robotics and automation technology.
